
We are the Payne County, Oklahoma Master Gardeners.
The primary purpose of the Payne County Master Gardeners is to assist, as volunteers, the Horticulture Program of Payne County Extension Service in the following ways:

Answering inquiries related to horticulture for the County Extension Service.

Serving as coordinators and counselors in the Master Gardener training program.

Providing County Extension personnel horticulture assistance, as requested.

Providing continuing education and fellowship for members interested in horticulture.

Master Gardener Education & Service Requirements:
Every year, each Master Gardener must complete 10 hours of Education and 20 hours of Service to maintain their Master Gardener Certification. Associate Master Gardeners must earn 5 hours of Education and 10 hours of Service.
The 2025 Master Gardener class must complete 40 hours of Service by May 31, 2026 to be refunded their $100 class deposit and become Certified Master Gardeners. Any 2025 Master Gardener class members who earn at least 20 Service hours (but less than 40) become an Associate Master Gardener, but do not receive their $100 refunded deposit.
Volunteering
The Master Gardener Program is a volunteer training program conducted by OSU Extension, designed to help the county extension centers meet the growing demand for consumer horticulture information.
Volunteer service components vary depending on the students' interests, but in all cases are educational, extension related, and represent the interests of University Extension.

Community service projects
- Volunteering at a community garden, such as the Botanic Garden at OSU or Our Daily Bread
- Writing gardening articles for publication
- Researching and preparing training, educational presentations, or articles for the Master Gardeners and public
- Delivering educational programming
- School programs
- Executive Board meetings
- Committee meetings
- Committee activities
- Monthly Master Gardener meetings (business portion)
- Volunteering at community events such as Herb Fest, Garden Fest, the Payne County Home & Garden Show, the monthly farmers market, or the Payne County Fair
